TigerAn Overview :
Located on the district of Sawai Madhopur in the eastern part of Rajasthan state, it is one of the most renowned tiger reserve of India. Once the haunting ground of the rulers of Jaipur, this tiger reserve was declared a sanctuary in the year 1957 and in came under the Project Tiger Scheme in 1974. It received the status of a National Park in the year 1981. The park has a diverse variety of flora and fauna species that attracts wildlife enthusiasts from all parts of the world.


Entry Fee :
Visitors are required to obtain a permit at the entrance point of the park. Entry fees of Rs 200 for foreigners and Rs 25 for Indians are charged. Additional fees are required for the entry of cameras and other jungle activities within the park.


Wildlife Attractions :

» Flora in the Park - Its dense and dry deciduous forest surrounded by the hills of Vindhyas and Aravalis consists of tree species like Banyan trees, dhok, pipal and clusters of mango trees.

Leopards» Fauna in the Park - Ranthambore houses numerous variety of wildlife species including the deadly tiger which can be spotted in the day light. Apart from tigers, there are a large number of leopards, deer, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, black bucks, bears, jackals, civets, Indian hare etc.

» Avi-fauna in the Park - There are around 272 different bird species including both resident and migratory. Some of the major bird species seen here are the spoonbills, parakeets, kingfishers, owls, geese, storks, various species of eagles, partridges, peacock and the great Indian horned owl.


Trips within the park :
The park authority provides facilities for jungle activities like Jeep Safari and Elephant Safari which are the best ways to spot tigers and other wildlife in their natural habitat. Jeeps are available on hire at the entrance of the park. The Rajasthan Tourist Development Corporation(RTDC) also organizes jeep safaris for its tourists. Also one can bring his/her own vehicles into the park with the permission of the park authority.


Accommodation :
There is accommodation available in hotels and lodges of all categories both inside and outside the park. The forest rest houses within Ranthambore National Park and several hotels run by RTDC and private companies offer excellent accommodation with all kinds of modern facilities. Hotels and resorts are also available at the nearest town of Sawai Madhopur. Some of the major lodges and resorts located within and outside the vicinity of park are the Tiger Den Resort, Tiger Moon Resort, The Hammir Wildlife Resort etc.


Getting to the Park :
» By Air - Jaipur's Sanganer Airport(145km) is the nearest one to Ranthambore.

» By Rail - The Sawai Madhopur Railway Station is at a distance of 11km from the park and is well connected to all the major cities of Rajasthan along with Delhi and Mumbai.

» By Road - A good network of road links Ranthambore with all the major destinations of Rajasthan.
